Abstract

Technology plays a crucial role in education by making the learning process more effective and enhancing the quality of education. Therefore, it is necessary to develop educational media such as multimodal ebooks based on problem-based learning (PBL) that can present material interactively, help students understand abstract concepts, and improve students' critical thinking skills in the subject of photosynthesis. The research aimed to develop a multimodal e-book based on problem-based learning (PBL) to enhance the critical thinking skills of 12th-grade high school students and to determine the product's feasibility based on evaluations by subject matter experts, media experts, and user responses (teachers and students). This study employs the research and development (R&D) method with the Tessmer development model, which includes the preliminary (preparation) stage and formative evaluation (self-evaluation and prototyping). The study was conducted from January to June 2024 at the Biology Education Laboratory of FKIP UNTIRTA and MAN 1 Lebak. The subject matter expert evaluation received an average score of 84%, while the media expert evaluation scored 86.7%. The user response evaluation yielded an average score of 92.7% from teachers and 93% from students. Based on the research, the multimodal ebook based on PBL is categorized as highly feasible to be applied as biology learning media in biology education, thus to improve students in understanding photosynthesis material and enhancing their critical thinking skills.

Additional Information: Teknologi memainkan peran penting dalam pendidikan dengan membuat proses pembelajaran lebih efektif dan meningkatkan mutu pendidikan. Oleh karena itu, perlu dikembangkan media pembelajaran seperti ebook multimoda berbasis problem-based learning (PBL) yang dapat menyajikan materi secara interaktif, membantu siswa memahami konsep abstrak, dan meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa dalam materi fotosintesis. Penelitian yang dilakukan bertujuan untuk mengembangkan ebook multimoda berbasis problem-based learning (PBL) untuk menunjang kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa SMA/MAN Kelas XII, serta mengetahui kelayakan produk berdasarkan penilaian uji ahli materi, ahli media, dan respon pengguna (guru dan siswa). Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian dan pengembangan (R&D) dengan model pengembangan Tessmer, yang mencakup tahap preliminary (persiapan) dan formative evaluation (self-evaluation dan prototyping). Penelitian dilaksanakan pada bulan Januari-Juni 2024 di Laboratorium Pendidikan Biologi FKIP UNTIRTA dan MAN 1 Lebak. Penilaian uji ahli materi memperoleh nilai rata-rata sebesar 84% dan 86,7% untuk uji ahli media. Adapun untuk penilaian uji respon pengguna memperoleh nilai rata-rata sebesar 92,7% dari uji respons guru dan 93% dari uji respons siswa. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, ebook multimoda berbasis PBL masuk dalam kategori sangat layak untuk digunakan dalam pembelajaran biologi agar siswa dapat memahami materi fotosintesis, serta meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kritisnya.
