Abstract

Introduction Workers have the potential to experience health problems that require special treatment because they are often faced with exposures or workloads that are dangerous to their health. A report from the World Health Organization (WHO) also shows that around 2.1% of all deaths and 2.7% of the entire global disease burden are caused by occupational risks. Method This research uses an observational analytical method with a cross sectional design. This research questionnaire was adapted from the American Thoracic Society Questionnaire (ATSQ). Questionnaires were distibuted via google form and manually. The sample in this study was 93 subjects involving production and non-production working departements. Result The prevalence of workers experiencing respiratory symptoms was 83.9%. Respiratory symptoms of sneezing (72%) were most frequently encountered in flour factory workers. Work unit and use of PPE have a significant relationship with respiratory symptoms (p-value < 0.05). Conclusion The prevalence of respiratory symptoms among flour mills workers in Banten is still quite high. Workers in non-production units have a 70% lower risk of experiencing respiratory symptoms than workers in production units. Workers who use PPE have a 40% lower risk of experiencing respiratory symptoms.
