Abstract

The genetic diversity of Beneng Taro can be known through morphological characters. This study aims to determine the differences in morphological characters of Beneng Taro plants influenced by altitude using PCA analysis and cluster analysis. This research is a qualitative study with a descriptive approach that is an exploratory survey. Sampling was carried out using the purposive sampling technique. Samples were taken from three different altitudes, namely 343 masl (low), 615 masl (medium), and 761 masl (high), located in Serang Regency and Pandeglang Regency. The samples used were 30 beneng taro plants. The research was conducted from January 2024 to March 2024. The results showed that based on PCA, the characters that differed based on altitude were plant height, leaf blade colour, leaf bone colour, petiole colour, petiole length, leaf length, and leaf width. In cluster analysis, four clusters were formed, which showed a relatively wide uniformity of characters. Suggestions that can be given based on this research are that more detailed research is needed on other environmental factors that can affect the growth and development of beneng taro plants, and further research is needed on the morphological characteristics of beneng taro plants in the roots and tubers, which are the way of taro breeding, so that at the same time it can be used as a reference for farmers, the community, and the government in carrying out cultivation activities to support efforts to preserve typical local plants from Banten Province.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui perbedaan karakter morfologi tanaman Talas Beneng yang dipengaruhi oleh ketinggian tempat dengan menggunakan analisis PCA dan analisis klaster. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan deskriptif yang bersifat survei eksploratif. Pengambilan sampel dilakukan dengan menggunakan teknik purposive sampling. Sampel diambil dari tiga ketinggian tempat yang berbeda, yaitu 343 mdpl (rendah), 615 mdpl (sedang), dan 761 mdpl (tinggi), yang terletak di Kabupaten Serang dan Kabupaten Pandeglang. Sampel yang digunakan sebanyak 30 tanaman talas beneng. Penelitian dilakukan pada bulan Januari 2024 hingga Maret 2024. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa berdasarkan PCA, karakter yang berbeda berdasarkan ketinggian tempat adalah tinggi tanaman, warna helai daun, warna tulang daun, warna tangkai daun, panjang tangkai daun, panjang daun, dan lebar daun. Pada analisis klaster terbentuk empat klaster yang menunjukkan keseragaman karakter yang relatif luas. Saran yang dapat diberikan berdasarkan penelitian ini adalah perlu dilakukan penelitian lebih lanjut mengenai faktor lingkungan lain yang dapat mempengaruhi pertumbuhan dan perkembangan tanaman talas beneng, serta perlu dilakukan penelitian lebih lanjut mengenai karakter morfologi tanaman talas beneng pada bagian akar dan umbi yang merupakan cara pemuliaan talas, sehingga sekaligus dapat digunakan sebagai acuan bagi petani, masyarakat, dan pemerintah dalam melakukan kegiatan budidaya untuk mendukung upaya pelestarian tanaman lokal khas Provinsi Banten.
