Abstract

This research aims to find out the difficulties experienced by students in speaking English. This research was conducted at 10th grade of Computer Network and Engineering of SMKN 7 Pandeglang. The research method in this research was used qualitative with case study design. The researcher collected the data by using observation, questionnaire and interview. The result showed that the students have difficulties in speaking English which consist of linguistics problem and psychological problem. In linguistics problem the students have difficulties such as in understanding and memorizing the vocabulary and the students vocabulary mastery is still limited, in pronounciation the students have difficulties to pronounce the words and still mispronounced, and in grammar there are so many grammatical error. In psychological problems, the students' experienced problems such as there are (78,7%) of the students fear of mistake when speaking English in front of the class, (87,7%) of the students lack of confidence, (78,7%) of the students feel nervousness, and (75,7%) of the students have lack of motivation in learning English. From these difficulties, the most common difficulties faced by students are lack in vocabulary and lack of self confidence.

Additional Information: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kesulitan yang dialami siswa dalam berbicara bahasa Inggris. Penelitian ini dilakukan di kelas 10 Teknik Komputer dan Jaringan di SMKN 7 Pandeglang. Metode penelitian dalam penelitian ini menggunakan kualitatif dengan desain studi kasus. Peneliti mengumpulkan data dengan menggunakan observasi, angket dan wawancara. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa siswa mengalami kesulitan dalam berbicara bahasa Inggris yang terdiri dari masalah linguistik dan masalah psikologis. Dalam permasalahan linguistik siswa mengalami kesulitan seperti dalam memahami dan menghafal kosakata dan penguasaan kosakata siswa masih terbatas, dalam pengucapan siswa kesulitan mengucapkan kata-kata dan masih salah mengucapkan, dan dalam tata bahasa banyak sekali kesalahan tata bahasa. Pada masalah psikologis, siswa mengalami permasalahan seperti terdapat (78,7%) siswa takut melakukan kesalahan saat berbicara bahasa Inggris di depan kelas, (87,7%) siswa kurang percaya diri, (78, 7%) siswa merasa gugup, dan (75,7%) siswa memiliki motivasi yang kurang dalam belajar bahasa Inggris. Dari kesulitan-kesulitan tersebut, kesulitan yang paling umum dihadapi siswa adalah kurangnya kosakata dan kurangnya rasa percaya diri.
