Abstract
This study describes the role of the smart garage social institution in efforts to improve the reading literacy culture of elementary school students by being seen as a social institution/organization. The purpose of this research is to find out how the role of garasi pintar social institution in efforts to improve the reading literacy culture of elementary school students in Jeruk Tipis neighborhood of Cilegon City. This research is a descriptive qualitative research by collecting data using observation, interview and documentation methods. The results of this study indicate that the Garasi Pintar Institute is a tutoring institution as well as a community reading park that is engaged in efforts to improve literacy culture in a thin orange environment seen using the concept of Bidlle and Thomas's role theory which aims to describe how the five terms of the role performed by garasi pintar, namely (1). Expectation, which is expected to be a place for children to achieve their success through the world of literacy, (2). Norm (norm), namely, the hope of the administrators and also the community to be able to develop a garasi pintar in order to help in efforts to improve the community's literacy culture, (3). Performance (behavioral form), namely the form of hope that is finally realized through the work program calistung and say hallo to books, and (4). Evaluation (assessment) and sanctions (sanctions), namely the role of assessment and sanctions can be seen with the performance of the garasi pintar administrators. Supporting factors for garasi pintar institutions in efforts to improve literacy culture, namely: (1). Commitment and support from Bulakan Village, and (2). Good relations between administrators and the community, while the inhibiting factors are: (1). Lack of teaching staff or mentors, and (2). Lack of operational budget. | Additional Information: | Penelitian ini menggambarkan mengenai bagaimana peran lembaga sosial garasi pintar dalam upaya peningkatan budaya literasi membaca siswa SD dengan dilihat sebagai suatu lembaga/organisasi sosial. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui bagaimana peran yang dilakukan oleh garasi pintar dalam upaya peningkatan budaya literasi membaca siswa SD di lingkungan jeruk tipis kota cilegon. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif deskriptif dengan mengumpulkan data menggunakan metode observasi, wawancara dan dokumentasi. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa Lembaga Garasi Pintar merupakan lembaga bimbingan belajar sekaligus taman baca masyarakat yang bergerak dalam upaya peningkatan budaya literasi di lingkungan jeruk tipis dilihat menggunakan konsep teori peran Bidlle dan Thomas yang bertujuan untuk mendeskrpsikan bagaimana kelima istilah peran yang dilakukan oleh garasi pintar, yaitu (1). Expectation (harapan) yaitu diharapkan menjadi wadah anak-anak untuk menggapai kesuksesannya lewat dunia literasi, (2). Norm (norma) yaitu, harapan para pengurus dan juga masyarakat untuk bisa mengembangkan garasi pintar agar bisa membantu dalam upaya peningkatan budaya literasi masyarakat, (3). Performance (Wujud perilaku) yaitu bentuk dari harapan itu akhirnya di wujudkan melalui program kerjanya calistung dan sapa buku, dan (4). Evaluation (penilaian) dan sunction (sanksi) yaitu Peran penilaian dan sanksi ini bisa dilihat dengan adanya kinerja para pengurus garasi pintar. Faktor pendukung lembaga garasi pintar dalam upaya peningkatan budaya literasi yaitu: (1). Komitmen dan dukungan dari Kelurahan Bulakan, dan (2). Hubungan baik natar pengurus dan masyarakat, sedangkan faktor penghambatnya yaitu: (1). Kurangnya tenaga pengajar atau mentor, dan (2). Minimnya anggaran operasional.
