Abstract

Background: The fourth stage or postpartum period can cause various complications, one of which is laceration of the birth canal. Laceration is an injury to the birth canal that occurs when a baby is born vaginally. In vaginal delivery, labor pain occurs before the fetus comes out until the birth canal injury in the perineum or vagina has been resolved. Based on the Indonesian Ministry of Health (2013), out of a total of 1,951 spontaneous vaginal deliveries, 57% of mothers received perineal sutures, including 28% due to episiotomy and 29% due to spontaneous tearing. Preventing pain during labor can be done with one of the pain management techniques, namely by administering lavender aromatherapy. According to research conducted by Himawati & Vitaloka (2021) at the Brati Community Health Center in February 2020 on 30 post-partum mothers with perineal pain, it was proven that lavender aromatherapy can reduce pain intensity. Purposes of Research: This study aims to find out how nursing care is for postpartum mothers with indications of birth canal lacerations who will be given lavender aromatherapy. Methods of Research: The research method used in this research is a qualitative method in the form of a case study which is based on the participant's ability to provide a perception or understanding of a problem. Researchers carried out data collection techniques in the form of interviews, observation, measurement and documentation. The degree of pain is measured using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS). Meanwhile, standard operational procedures (SPO) are used to measure how correctly the actions taken are based on the provisions that have been set. Results of Research: The results of this study showed that both patients experienced a decrease in pain intensity after inhaling lavender aromatherapy. The conclusion of this research is that giving lavender aromatherapy inhalation can overcome the problem of post-partum discomfort (pain) in fourth-stage post-partum mothers who experience birth canal lacerations.
