Abstract

The development of contextual-based 2D animation video on saponification aims to enhance understanding and stimulate critical thinking among learners on macromolecule materials. This animation is designed by integrating the concept of saponification with contextual situations in daily life. The development method integrates constructivist learning theory and interactive multimedia teaching strategies. After the development process, the 2D animation video is evaluated by content and media experts. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of 2D animation video in stimulating critical thinking among learners by applying the ADDIE development model (Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, Evaluate). Needs analysis involves interviews with chemistry teachers, mini-research through student questionnaires, and a review of relevant literature. Validation testing is conducted using Aiken’s V index with the participation of 7 expert validators in material and 7 expert validators in media. Limited testing results were conducted at SMAN 4 Kota Serang in class XI with the 2013 curriculum, showing very positive responses from students towards this 2D animation video, with student responses scoring 0.88 in the media aspect, 0.89 in the material aspect, and 0.91 in the contextual aspect. With an average validity score of 0.89, the learning media is considered valid and suitable for use. This indicates that the media meets quality standards and is effective for use in the learning process. Additionally, individual assessments are needed to stimulate students' critical thinking following the implementation of the 2D animated videos. Therefore, this research contributes to the development of more effective and innovative 2D animated learning methods, making learning more enjoyable through interaction with images, sounds, colors, and videos in the context of macromolecule learning.
