Abstract

Netflix is a paid SVOD streaming platform application. Since the Covid-19 pandemic, Netflix subscribers have continued to increase and become the first ranked SVOD streaming platform by 2023 in Indonesia. At the same time, the phenomenon of buying and selling Netflix on social media has emerged. This activity of buying and selling Netflix is not something that is allowed by Netflix. The activity of buying and selling Netflix on social media is considered to be a violation of ethics in the act of buying and selling Netflix by the seller and buyer because it is illegal and causes harm to Netflix. The formulation of the problem of this research is how ethical views are built by unauthorized Netflix users in the activity of buying and selling Netflix on social media. This research is assisted by Berger and Luckmann's Social Construction Theory. The methodology used is qualitative-descriptive with case study method. The conclusion of this research is that there are positive and negative views on Netflix buying and selling activities by unofficial Netflix users. However, in the unofficial Netflix buying and selling activity, the understanding of ethics is oriented towards the validity of the account officially by Netflix; Interactions during the Netflix buying and selling process on social media lead to habitualization; and individual decisions in becoming unofficial Netflix users are influenced by conditions and situations.

Additional Information: Netflix merupakan aplikasi platform streaming SVOD berbayar. Sejak pandemi Covid-19, pelanggan Netflix terus meningkat dan menjadi platform streaming SVOD peringkat pertama pada tahun 2023 di Indonesia. Bersamaan dengan itu, muncul fenomena aktivitas jual beli Netflix di media sosial. Aktivitas jual beli Netflix ini bukanlah suatu tindakan yang dibolehkan oleh pihak Netflix. Aktivitas jual beli Netflix di media sosial dinilai melakukan pelanggaran etika dalam tindakan jual beli Netflix oleh penjual dan pembeli karena bersifat ilegal dan memberi kerugian pada pihak Netflix. Rumusan masalah dari penelitian ini bagaimana pandangan etika dibangun oleh pengguna Netflix tidak resmi dalam aktivitas jual beli Netflix di media sosial. Penelitian ini dibantu dengan Teori Konstruksi Sosial Berger dan Luckmann. Metodologi yang digunakan yaitu kualitatif-deskriptif dengan metode studi kasus. Kesimpulan dari hasil penelitian ini berupa yaitu; adanya pandangan positif dan negatif dalam aktivitas jual beli Netflix oleh pengguna Netflix tidak resmi. Namun dalam aktivitas jual beli Netflix tidak resmi, pemahaman etika berorientasi pada kevalidan akun secara resmi oleh pihak Netflix; Interaksi-interaksi selama proses jual beli Netflix di media sosial memunculkan habitualisasi; serta keputusan individu dalam menjadi pengguna Netflix tidak resmi dipengaruhi oleh kondisi dan situasi.
