Abstract

This research reports the use of digital storytelling media in the teaching of speaking skills of students in SMAIT AL-LUTHFAH (Cikarang). The purpose of this research is to find out whether digital storytelling media can enhance on the speaking skills of class X students in SMAIT AL-LUTHFAH. The method used in this research is a quantitative method with quasi experimental design. A total of 59 students are taken as the sample in this research. This research involved 59 students of SMAIT AL-LUTHFAH as subject of the research. While the object of this research was the application of digital Storytelling media to enhance the students’ speaking skill. The data was gathered using the students' post-test results. The t-test was used to test the hypotheses and get gain scores in order to determine whether there was an improvement within groups and whether there were differences across groups. Based on the results of the research, there was significant increase after giving treatment with digital storytelling, it was confirmed by value of sig. (2-tailled) was 0.01. Thus, it can be concluded that digital storytelling can enhance the speaking skill of the tenth-grade students of SMAIT AL-LUTHFAH and increased their response, enthusiasm, courage, and activity to speak. This finding is suggested for teachers as an alternate method in teaching English, especially speaking skills.

Additional Information: Penelitian ini melaporkan penggunaan media bercerita digital dalam pengajaran keterampilan berbicara siswa di SMAIT AL-LUTHFAH (Cikarang). Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui apakah media bercerita digital dapat meningkatkan keterampilan berbicara siswa kelas X di SMAIT AL-LUTHFAH. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode kuantitatif dengan desain quasi eksperimen. Sebanyak 59 siswa diambil sebagai sampel dalam penelitian ini. Penelitian ini melibatkan 59 siswa SMAIT AL-LUTHFAH sebagai subjek penelitian. Sedangkan objek penelitian ini adalah penerapan media Storytelling digital untuk meningkatkan keterampilan berbicara siswa. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan menggunakan hasil post-test siswa. Uji-t digunakan untuk menguji hipotesis dan mendapatkan skor gain untuk menentukan apakah ada peningkatan dalam kelompok dan apakah ada perbedaan antar kelompok. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian terdapat peningkatan yang signifikan setelah diberikan perlakuan dengan digital storytelling, hal ini dibuktikan dengan nilai sig. (2-ekor) adalah 0,01. Dengan demikian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa digital storytelling dapat meningkatkan keterampilan berbicara siswa kelas sepuluh SMAIT AL-LUTHFAH dan meningkatkan respon, semangat, keberanian, dan aktivitas berbicara mereka. Temuan ini disarankan bagi guru sebagai metode alternatif dalam pengajaran bahasa Inggris, khususnya keterampilan berbicara.
