Abstract

Road construction planning must consider the characteristics and strength of the soil, especially the properties of the soil that affect the bearing capacity of the soil in withstanding the construction load above it. The purpose of this study is to determine the classification and physical properties of soil and to determine the effect of fly ash-based geopolymer as an additive on soil characteristics and unconfined compressive strength values. To obtain the unconfined compressive strength value, soil characteristics testing and unconfined compressive strength testing were carried out using the Unconfined Compression Tester (UCT) tool. The test object used is a soil sample added with geopolymer with fly ash raw materials and alkaline activators (Na2SiO3 and NaOH). Where the NaOH concentration is 10 M with a solution ratio of 2.0 (Na2SiO3 to NaOH), fly ash content of 20%, and variations in S/L (fly ash to activator) levels of 1/2 and 1/2.5. The curing of the test specimens was carried out for 0, 7, 14, and 28 days. Based on the research conducted, it was found that the soil used in the research was classified as OH soil (organic clay with medium to high plasticity) with an IP of 20.18%. The effect of fly ash-based geopolymer in this study decreased the IP value by 9.32% for variation B (80% soil, 20% FA, S/L 1/2) and 6.88% for variation C (80% soil, 20% FA, S/L 1/2.5). In the unconfined compressive strength test, the effect of fly ash based geopolymer can increase the qu value, at 28 days curing time with qu value of 36.427 kg/cm2 for variation C (Soil 80%, FA 20%, S/L 1/2.5) and 35.056 kg/cm2 for variation B (Soil 80%, FA 20%, S/L ½).

Additional Information: Perencanaan konstruksi jalan harus mempertimbangkan karakteristik dan kekuatan tanah terutama sifat-sifat tanah yang mempengaruhi kekuatan dukung tanah dalam menahan beban konstruksi diatasnya. Tujuan penelitian ini yaitu untuk mengetahui klasifikasi dan sifat fisik tanah serta mengetahui pengaruh geopolimer berbasis fly ash sebagai bahan tambah terhadap karakteristik tanah dan nilai kuat tekan bebas. Untuk mendapatkan nilai kuat tekan bebas, dilakukan pengujian karakteristik tanah dan pengujian kuat tekan bebas dengan menggunakan alat Unconfined Compression Tester (UCT). Benda uji yang digunakan yaitu sampel tanah yang ditambahkan dengan geopolimer dengan bahan baku fly ash serta aktivator alkali (Na2SiO3 dan NaOH). Dimana konsentrasi NaOH 10 M dengan rasio larutan 2,0 (Na2SiO3 terhadap NaOH), kadar fly ash sebesar 20%, serta variasi kadar S/L (fly ash terhadap aktivator) sebesar 1/2 dan 1/2,5. Pemeraman benda uji dilakukan dengan waktu 0, 7, 14, dan 28 hari. Berdasarkan penelitian yang telah dilakukan, didapat hasil bahwa tanah yang dipakai pada penelitian masuk kedalam klasifikasi tanah OH (lempung organik dengan plastisitas sedang sampai tinggi) dengan IP sebesar 20,18%. Pengaruh geopolimer berbasis fly ash pada penelitian ini menurunkan nilai IP dengan nilai IP sebesar 9,32% untuk variasi B (Tanah 80%, FA 20%, S/L 1/2) dan 6,88% untuk variasi C (Tanah 80%, FA 20%, S/L 1/2,5). Pada pengujian kuat tekan bebas, pengaruh geopolimer berbasis fly ash dapat meningkatkan nilai qu, pada waktu pemeraman 28 hari dengan nilai qu sebesar 36,427 kg/cm2 untuk variasi C (Tanah 80%, FA 20%, S/L 1/2,5) dan 35,056 kg/cm2 untuk variasi B (Tanah 80%, FA 20%, S/L ½).
