Abstract

Kappaphycus alvarezii is one type of red seaweed that has the potential to be developed and utilized as an ingredient for making cosmetic preparations, one of which is a peel off face mask. The high bioactive content used for cosmetic preparations in K. alvarezii is triterpenoids, phenol hydroquinone, and flavonoids which have the potential for antioxidants and antibacterials. The peel off mask is a practical mask and has the benefits of brightening, smoothing, and making the skin younger and moisturized. The moisture of facial skin and the aroma of the mask preparation can be obtained from additional natural ingredients such as green tea leaves, because the content of resin compounds and organic acids in tea leaves plays a role in forming the smell and aroma of tea. In addition, the content of green tea leaves that are good for cosmetics are catechins (polyphenols) and antioxidants. This study aims to determine the characteristics and content of the addition of K. alvarezii seaweed and green tea leaves in the manufacture of peel off masks. This research was conducted from October 2023 to January 2024 at the Fishery Products Processing Technology Laboratory (TPHP). The method used in this study is a laboratory experimental method using a completely randomized design (RAL), with research treatments using K. alvarezii seaweed and green tea leaf extract consisting of 4 treatment levels, namely F0 (Without the addition of K. alvarezii seaweed pulp and green tea leaf extract), F1 (1:1), F2 (2:1), F3 (1:2) and each treatment with 2 replications. The research stages include seaweed preparation, seaweed pulp making, green tea leaf extraction, and peel off mask making. The testing parameters of peel off masks include: pH measurement, spreadability, drying time, effectiveness of moisture, homogeneity, antioxidants, and hedonics (appearance, texture, aroma, and color). Data analysis of the research results used the SPSS version 20.0 application. The results showed that the best formulation in making peel off masks was in formulation F2 with an IC50 value of 200.04 ppm, a pH value of 5.25, a spreadability value of 3.96cm, a drying time value of 25.8 minutes, a moisture value of 47.5%, and a sensory test value on the parameters were like to neutral, namely appearance 4.27, texture 4.07, color 3.63 and aroma 3.27. The peel off mask produced was qualified on all parameters.

Additional Information:	Kappaphycus alvarezii merupakan salah satu jenis rumput laut merah yang memiliki potensi untuk dikembangkan dan dimanfaatkan sebagai bahan pembuatan sediaan kosmetik salah satunya adalah masker wajah peel off. Kandungan bioaktif tinggi yang digunakan untuk sediaan kosmetik pada Kappaphycus alvarezii adalah triterpenoid, fenol hidrokuinon, dan flavonoid yang berpotensi untuk antioksidan dan antibakteri. Masker peel off merupakan masker praktis dan memiliki manfaat untuk mencerahkan, menghaluskan, dan membuat kulit lebih muda dan lembab. Kelembaban kulit wajah dan aroma sediaan masker dapat diperoleh dari bahan alami tambahan seperti daun teh hijau, karena kandungan senyawa resin dan asam organik dalam daun teh berperan dalam membentuk bau dan aroma teh. Selin itu kandungan daun teh hijau yang baik untuk kosmetik adalah katekin (polifenol) dan antioksidan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menentukan karakteristik dan kandungan dari penambahan rumput laut Kappaphycus alvarezii dan daun teh hijau dalam pembuatan masker peel off. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada bulan Oktober 2023 sampai dengan Januari 2024 bertempat di Laboratorium Teknologi Pengolahan Hasil Perikanan (TPHP). Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode eksperimen laboratorium dengan menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL), dengan perlakuan penelitian menggunakan rumput laut K. alvarezii dan ekstrak daun teh hijau yang terdiri dari 4 taraf perlakuan yaitu F0 (Tanpa penambahan bubur rumput laut K. alvarezii dan ekstrak daun teh hijau), F1 (1:1), F2 (2:1), F3 (1:2) dan masing-masing perlakuan dengan 2 kali ulangan. Tahapan penelitian meliputi preparasi rumput laut, pembuataan bubur rumput laut, ekstraksi daun teh hijau, dan pembuataan masker peel off. Parameter pengujian masker peel off yang dilakukan meliputi: pengukuran pH, daya sebar, waktu mengering, efektivitas kelembaban kelembapan, homogenitas, antioksidan, dan hedonik (kenampakan, tekstur, aroma, dan warna). Analisis data hasil penelitian menggunakan aplikasi SPSS versi 20.0. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa formulasi terbaik dalam pembuatan masker peel off yaitu pada formulasi F2 dengan nilai IC50 200,04 ppm, nilai pH 5,25, nilai daya sebar 3.96±0.03 cm, nilai waktu mengering 25.8±0.28 menit, nilai kelembapan 47,5%, dan nilai uji sensori pada parameter adalah suka sampai netral yaitu kenampakan 4.27, tekstur 4,07, warna 3,63 dan aroma 3,27. Masker peel off yang dihasilkan memenuhi syarat pada semua parameter.
