Abstract

This research is purposed to investigate the implementation of autonomous learning, in three aspects: self-planning, self-monitoring, and self-evaluating, and also to find out the most difficult aspect the teacher encounters in implementing the autonomous learning in English writing class at the Eleventh grade of SMKS An Nurmaniyah. This study is a qualitative -case study. This research observed one class consisting of 41 students gathered through classroom observation and questionnaire to assess the performance in these aspects. The findings reveal that in the self-planning aspect, 74.39% of students demonstrated proficiency, and categorized into "good.". In self-monitoring, 84.77% exhibited autonomy, categorizing them as "very good.". In the self-evaluating, 68.3% of students were categorized as "fair." Additionally, for the most difficult aspect, the interview result the self-planning is the most difficult to implement. Therefore, it can be concluded that while students generally performed well in self-planning and self-monitoring, there is a recognized need for further attention and support in enhancing self evaluating skills. The identification of self-planning as the most challenging aspect provides valuable insights for educators and curriculum developers to address specific areas that may require additional guidance and instructional strategies.
