Abstract
One of the media for conveying information is through films. Beyond entertaining, films, as a mass communication medium, carry messages intended for their audience, such as educational and informative content. "Yuni" is a film by Kamila Andini that utilizes the Serang Javanese language from beginning to end, successfully winning the Platform Prize at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2021. The film explores the role of women in depth, primarily through the main character, Yuni. Yuni is a young girl striving to surpass the social limitations imposed by the patriarchal society in the fishing village of Banten. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach with Roland Barthes' semiotic theory for data analysis. In this study, conclusions can be drawn from three aspects of analysis: denotative, connotative, and myth. Denotatively, the film "Yuni" portrays interactions among the main characters using precise cinematographic techniques, illustrating Yuni's struggle in seeking education, rejecting marriage norms, and receiving solidarity support. Connotatively, the film contains additional meanings, including Yuni's spirited struggle, the significance of authoritative support such as teachers, and resistance against societal stereotypes and limitations for women. Connotative analysis also highlights solidarity among women, family support, and resistance against patriarchal norms. Meanwhile, in the context of myths, the film reveals mythical perspectives on higher education, marriage, women's freedom, and the role of mothers, featuring female characters daring to defy norms and pursue freedom and education. Overall, "Yuni" not only narrates the struggle of women denotatively and connotatively but also delves into myths shaping the cultural and religious realities in the Banten region.

Tidak hanya menghibur, film sebagai media komunikasi massa memiliki pesan yang ingin disampaikan kepada audiensnya, seperti pesan yang edukatif dan informatif. Film Yuni merupakan film karya Kamila Andini yang menggunakan Bahasa Jawa Serang dari awal hingga penghujung film, dan berhasil memenangkan penghargaan Platform Prize di Toronto International Film Festival pada tahun 2021. Film ini mengeksplorasi peran perempuan secara mendalam, terutama melalui tokoh utama, Yuni. Yuni adalah seorang gadis muda yang berusaha melampaui batasan sosial yang ditetapkan oleh masyarakat patriarkis di desa nelayan Banten. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif dengan teori semiotik Roland Barthes sebagai analisis datanya. Dalam penelitian ini, kesimpulan dapat diambil dari tiga aspek analisis, yaitu denotatif, konotatif, dan mitos. Secara denotatif, film "Yuni" menampilkan interaksi antara tokoh-tokoh utama dengan menggunakan teknik pengambilan gambar yang cermat, menggambarkan perjuangan Yuni dalam mencari pendidikan, menolak norma pernikahan, dan mendapatkan dukungan solidaritas. Dari segi konotatif, film ini mengandung makna tambahan, termasuk semangat perjuangan Yuni, pentingnya dukungan otoritas seperti guru, serta perlawanan terhadap stereotip dan batasan sosial perempuan. Analisis konotatif juga menyoroti solidaritas antarperempuan, dukungan keluarga, dan perlawanan terhadap norma-norma patriarki. Sementara itu, dalam konteks mitos, film ini mengungkapkan pandangan mitos tentang pendidikan tinggi, pernikahan, kebebasan perempuan, dan peran ibu, menampilkan karakter perempuan yang berani melanggar norma dan mengejar kebebasan serta pendidikan. Keseluruhan, "Yuni" tidak hanya menceritakan perjuangan perempuan secara denotatif dan konotatif, tetapi juga menyelami mitos-mitos yang membentuk realitas budaya dan agama di daerah Banten. | |||||||||
