Abstract

Untuk manusia kromium bisa mengakibatkan penyakit kanker sedangkan untuk ekosistem di alam kandungan kromium pada konsentrasi tertentu bisa menyebabkan kematian pada ikan di sungai atau laut. Sumber kromium yang mencemari lingkungan salah-satunya berasal dari industri tekstil. Menurut keputusan Menteri Negara Lingkungan Hidup tentang Baku Mutu Limbah Cair Bagi Kegiatan Industri, batas maksimal krom total (Cr) yang diperbolehkan dibuang ke lingkungan adalah 2,0 mg/l. Kandungan krom total pada limbah cair antara 8,12-11,62 ppm. Kemudian untuk mengurangi kadar krom pada limbah cair, harus dilakukan pengolahan terhadap limbah tersebut. Salah satu caranya adalah dengan proses adsorpsi. Banyak adsorben yang digunakan dalam proses adsorpsi seperti karbon dan zeolite. Namun, dalam penelitian ini kami menggunakan resin penukar ion Indion 225H karena dianggap memiliki daya penyerapan yang baik, mudah didapat, dan harga yang terjangkau. Selain itu masalah selanjutnya adalah menentukan model matematika yang cocok untuk menggambarkan fenomena yang terjadi. Tujuan dari penelitian ini yaitu untuk mengetahui seberapa besar pengaruh variasi massa resin dan waktu kontak terhadap proses adsorpsi antara ion kromium dan adsorben berupa indion 225H dan untuk mempelajari model kinetika penyerapan antara ion kromium dan adsorben berupa indion 225H. Penelitian dilakukan dengan pengadukan resin dan larutan Cr 10 ppm dalam gelas beker selama waktu yang ditentukan, lalu hasil adsorpsi disaring untuk kemudian dianalisa. Penganalisaan kadar kromium filtrat dengan menggunakan metode spektrofotometri. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian yang dilakukan, proses adsorpsi yang paling optimal dalam percobaan ini terdapat pada variasi waktu pengadukan 5 jam dan massa resin 0,6 gram. Semakin besar massa resin dan waktu kontak maka proses adsorpsi semakin optimal, dan adsorpsi krom lebih mematuhi model isotherm adsorpsi Langmuir. Nilai masing-masing kapasitas adsorpsi (qo) dan energi adsorpsi (b) adalah sebesar 0,159 mg/g dan 0,334 cm3/mg.

Additional Information: For humans, chromium can cause cancer, while for ecosystems in nature, chromium content at certain concentrations can cause death in fish in rivers or the sea. One of the sources of chromium that pollutes the environment comes from the textile industry. According to the Decree of the State Minister of the Environment concerning the Quality Standards for Liquid Waste for Industrial Activities, the maximum limit for total chromium (Cr) that is allowed to be discharged into the environment is 2.0 mg/l. The total chromium content in wastewater is between 8.12- 11.62 ppm. Then to reduce the chromium content in the liquid waste, treatment must be carried out on the waste. One way is by the adsorption process. Many adsorbents are used in the adsorption process such as carbon and zeolite. However, In this study, we used Indion 225H ion exchange resin because it is considered to have good absorption, easy to obtain, and affordable price. In addition, the next problem is to determine a suitable mathematical model to describe the phenomena that occur. The purpose of this study was to determine how much influence the variation of resin mass and contact time had on the adsorption process between chromium ions and adsorbent in the form of indion 225H and to study the model of absorption kinetics between chromium ions and adsorbent in the form of indion 225H. The experiment was carried out by stirring the resin and 10 ppm Cr solution in a beaker for a specified time, then the adsorption results were filtered for later analysis. Analysis of filtrate chromium content using spectrophotometric method. Based on the results of the research conducted, the most optimal adsorption process in this experiment was found in the variation of the stirring time of 5 hours and the resin mass of 0.6 grams. The greater the resin mass and the contact time, the more optimal the adsorption process, and the more chromium adsorption adheres to the Langmuir adsorption isotherm model. The respective values of adsorption capacity (qo) and adsorption energy (b) were 0.159 mg/g and 0.334 cm3/mg.
