Abstract

ABSTRACT Analysis Of Figurative Language Used In Adele’s Song Lyrics Nilawati Simanjuntak 2223180049 The aims of the research were to find out the type of figurative language used in Adele's song lyrics and the teacher's response of using the song as media in learning the figurative language. The researcher used qualitative by using content analysis because the primary data of this research were taken from song lyrics. The research instrument was document and interview that conducted with an English teacher. The results of this research there were 0 irony (0%), 10 hyperboles (25%), 1 metaphor (2%), 13 metonymies (32%), 4 litotes (10%), 5 similes (12%), 5 personifications (12%), and 3 oxymorons (7%). It can be conluded that there are seven types of figurative language in Adele’s song, namely: hyperbole, metaphor, metonymy litotes, simile, personification and oxymoron. From the teacher interview, the teacher used song as media for learning the figurative language and students look more enthusiastic and understand figurative language more easily. It can be concluded that song can be used as a media in learning figurative language. Keywords: Figurative Language, Lyrics, Learning, Media, Song
