Abstract
This paper aim is to analyze the relationship among variables which a recategorized as the cause of the current account deficit in Indonesia. Utilizingthe Vector Autoregression (VAR) approach, this study constructs a dynamic system consist of five variables such as current account, exchange rate of rupiah to yuan (ER), gross domestic product of Indonesia (GDP INA), difference of domestic and overseas price index telecommunication equipment and parts (P), and gross domestic product of China (GDP China), as the cause of the current account deficit. Analysis employing the impulse response function reveals that the current account tends to response negatively to exchange rate of rupiah to yuan, gross domestic product of Indonesia and difference of domestic and overseas price index telecommunication equipment and parts. On the other hand, the current account reacts positively to the shock from the gross domestic product of China variable. Analysis utilizing the forecast error variance decomposition shows that the current account shock explains most of the fluctuations in the current account, whichis followed by exchange rate of rupiah to yuan, gross domestic product of Indonesia, gross domestic product of China and difference of domestic and overseas price index telecommunication equipment and parts. The existence of inter-relationship among the determinants of the current account exhibits the importance of economic policy coordination to improve the current account performance.

| Additional Information: | Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis hubungan antar variabel yang dikategorikan sebagai penyebab defisit neraca transaksi berjalan di Indonesia. Dengan menggunakan pendekatan Vector Autoregression (VAR), penelitian ini membangun sebuah sistem dinamis yang terdiri atas lima variabel yaitu neraca transaksi berjalan, Nilai Tukar Rupiah terhadap Yuan (ER), Produk Domestik Bruto Indonesia (GDP INA), Perbedaan Indeks Harga Domestik dan Luar Negeri Perangkat Pesawat Telekomunikasi dan Bagiannya (P), Produk Domestik Bruto China (GDP CHINA) sebagai penyebab defisit neraca transaksi berjalan. Analisa dengan menggunakan impulse response function menunjukkan bahwa neraca transaksi berjalan cenderung memberikan respon negatif terhadap shock yang terjadi pada variabel Nilai Tukar Rupiah terhadap Yuan (ER), Produk Domestik Bruto Indonesia (GDP INA) dan Perbedaan Indeks Harga Domestik dan Luar Negeri Perangkat Pesawat Telekomunikasi dan Bagiannya (P). Di sisi lain, shock, neraca transaksi berjalan bereaksi positif terhadap shock di variabel Produk Domestik Bruto China (GDP CHINA). Analisa dengan menggunakan forecast error variance decomposition menunjukkan bahwa shock neraca transaksi berjalan menjelaskan sebagian besar fluktuasi neraca transaksi berjalan, yang diikuti oleh Nilai Tukar Rupiah terhadap Yuan, Produk Domestik Bruto Indonesia, Produk Domestik Bruto China dan Perbedaan Indeks Harga Domestik dan Luar Negeri Perangkat Pesawat Telekomunikasi dan Bagiannya. Adanya keterkaitan hubungan antara determinan neraca transaksi berjalan menunjukkan pentingnya sinkroninasi kebijakan ekonomi untuk memperbaiki kinerja neraca transaksi berjalan. | |||||||||
