Abstract

The purpose of this research was to know differences in the result of Civic Education learning (PKn) between students that learned with a contextual teaching and learning (CTL) model and also who had critical thinking skills compared conventional learning model or speech varies. The research was conducted at second grade of SMPN 1 Cilegon on 2015/2016. The population was 245 students consisted of 70 samples which are divided into experimental class that learning activities using the CTL model and a control class using conventional learning model. This research used the quasi�experimental method with a design factorial study by 2x2, while data analysis using ANOVA two ways with a significant level ofα = 0.05. The results showed: (1) the students who learned using CTL model had a better result than the students who learned using conventional learning model (F = 30.76> F = 4.11); (2) the students result of Civic Education learning who had high critical thinking skills were better than those who had low critical thinking skills(F = 10.24> F = 4.11); (3) there was interaction between learning model and critical thinking skills through the result of Civic Education learning(F = 7.82> F = 4.11). This research showed that learning with CTL model is more appropriate than conventional learning model or speech varies in improving the result of Civic Education learning, and students who have high critical thinking skills will be better than the students who have low critical thinking skills.
