Abstract

The use of steel martensitic stainless steel 420 (SS 420) as the base material component of the steam turbine blade component that surface modified using a coating process Electroless Ni-P. This process is one solution coating applied to stainless steel as a substrate to improve corrosion resistance. By doing this research is to get an idea of the effect of surface roughness as well as information and stirring speed on the characteristics of Electroless Ni-P layer. the elements are contained, distribution layer, as well as coating adhesion results on stainless steel SS 420. In this study 420 SS martensitic material coated with a metal coating of nickel and phosphorus with variations in surface roughness of 0.044 μm, 0.056 μm, 0.101 μm and 0.164 μm and with variations of 4.9 rpm stirring speed, 11.3 rpm and 21.3 rpm the results of the study showed that the roughness permukkan and low speed causes the grain distribution becomes more equitable, it is shown by SEM examination. Adhesion layer also increases with increasing levels of surface roughness, adhesion highest value of 1.9 MPa at 0.164 μm. And the lowest value of adhesion was 0.8 MPa at 0,044 μm.
