Abstract

The tittle of this research was Barriers in speaking English of the students’ at the eight grade of SMPN 3 CIkande. The objective of this research search for and provide possible solutions to the barriers students in teaching English at eight grade of State Junior High School 3 CIkande -Serang. This research design used case study qualitative research. Subject of this research were English teacher and seventh grade in VIII D class, there were 32 students in the class. The researcher collected the data using observation, interview, questionnaire, and documentation. The data was analyzed by using procedure analyzing data by Bogdan & Biklen (1982), there are data reduction, data display, and verification. The result of the research showed that the students have barriers in speaking English which is divided into two factors, namely; linguistic factors and psychological factors when their speaking English in the class. The result of interview, questionnaire and observation showed 94% students lack understanding of grammar, lack of vocabulary with 87% and 69% students incorrect pronunciation, it are a barrier of linguistic factors. if from psychological factor, 87% students have shynees as a barrier to their speaking in English, 78% students feel lack mistake, 75% Anxiety and lack of confidence, and for motivati on, all students feel they do not lack motivation to learn and speak English. So, the researcher assumed the role of the teacher and the environment is very influential for the development of language learning students in English. So that any the barriers experienced by students certainly have the means to overcome it and also can improve students' skills in speaking English.
