Abstract

Early reading ability of children aged 4-5 years in TKIT Al-MubarokBojonegara are still low, this factor due to the learning activities that are still monotonous and makes children feel bored and tired. This proved many children who are less interested in reading activities. Whole language approach adopted one of the teachers in improving reading skills in children beginning. The method used in this research is classroom action research method, measures which are designed in a recurring cycle, in this study consisted of two cycles. In the first cycle of 8 times the action and second cycle 4 times the action, with a 68% success criteria. Subjects in this study were in TKIT Al-MubarokBojonegara with a total of 8 children aged 4- 5 years comprising of four boys and four girls in each cycle consists of three phases, namely, planning, action and observation and reflection. The technique of collecting data through observation, field notes, interview notes and documentation.Data analysis using data reduction, data presentation and conclusion. The data analysis showed that the ability to read the beginning of children aged 4-5 years through the whole language approach in TKIT Al-MubarokBojonegara done as much as two cycles, the first cycle of 8 times the meeting and the second cycle 4 times the meeting, given the early stage in the process learning by designing and implementing RPPH whole language approach to learning, the core activities carried out by providing measures through construction activities and observations made in each cycle. Based on the research results obtained that reading ability of children aged 4-5 years beginning through the whole language approach with the results of this research note that in the first cycle of data obtained up to 33% because they indicators of success should reach 68%. This research was continued in the second cycle to the implementation of activities as much as four times the meeting obtained yield was 78%. Based on the results of the data that has been obtained, it can be concluded that the whole language approach can improve the reading skills of children aged 4-5 years beginning at TKIT Al-MubarokBojonegara.
