Abstract

ystem of Rice Intensification (SRI) is an agricultural development program to apply the model to empower farmers with community participation approach in order to enhance the quality and capacity of farmers through the various stages of the program of activities at SRI. The aim of this study was to determine the characteristics of farmers, to determine the level of participation of farmers, and to determine the internal and external factors associated with the level of participation of farmers in SRI program. This research was conducted in the village of Lebak Kepuh, Serang District since June 2015. In this research method uses a quantitative approach with a questionnaire survey supported secondary data and interviews. Determination of research instruments using Likert Scale. Sample size determination using Slovin Formula, and obtained as many as 38 samples. Analysis of data using frequency tables, cross tabulations, and Spearman Rank correlation test with significance value α of 0.05. The results showed the characteristics of farmers include older age, low education levels, extensive arable land is very broad, high income levels, high cosmopolitan nature, the environmental conditions are very supportive, and the availability of production facilities available. The level of participation of farmers is high. Characteristics of internal and external factors associated with the level of participation of farmers in SRI program includes the cosmopolitan (0490), environmental conditions (0.541), intensity following the agricultural extension (0.491), and the availability of production facilities (0.562).
