Abstract

Polyethylene, particularly LDPE, is a type of plastic that is commonly used in daily life, resulting in its waste being frequently encountered in the environment. One approach to address this issue is to utilize this waste as a matrix in air-ventilated blocks (rosters) based on particulate-filled polymer. However, using LDPE as a substitute for cement can reduce the silica (SiO2) content, which may compromise the quality of the roster. Therefore, silica sand is used to replace regular sand as a filler to enhance the strength of the roster, given that silica sand has a high silica content. The research involved creating four variations of the composition of LDPE:silica sand:crushed stone (% by weight), specifically 70:10:20, 60:20:20, 50:30:20, and 40:40:20. Cube-shaped samples measuring 15×15×15 cm were produced using a conventional method, which included melting LDPE on a stove at a temperature of 110-125 °C, mixing in silica sand and crushed stone, and manually stirring until homogeneous. The casting and drying stages were conducted according to SNI 03-1974-1990 standards. The tests performed included compressive strength, water absorption, and density. The results of the tests indicated that all four roster samples met the criteria of SNI 03-0349-1989, suggesting they are suitable for application. Based on optimization using data normalization in Microsoft Excel, the best sample that met the required criteria, such as the highest compressive strength, lowest water absorption, and lowest density, was Sample 1, which exhibited a compressive strength of 139.86 kg/cm², a water absorption of 0.716%, and a density of 1150 kg/m³.

Additional Information: Polyethylene khususnya LDPE merupakan plastik yang sering digunakan di kehidupan sehari-hari, sehingga limbahnya banyak ditemui di sekitar. Salah satu cara yang dapat dilakukan dalam mengatasinya dengan memanfaatkan limbah tersebut menjadi matriks pada roster (lubang udara) berbasis particulate-filled polymer. Namun, dengan menggunakan LDPE sebagai pengganti semen bisa mengurangi kadar silika (SiO2) yang dapat mengurangi mutu roster, sehingga digunakan pasir silika untuk menggantikan pasir biasa sebagai filler untuk menambah kekuatan pada roster dikarenakan pasir silika memiliki kandungan silika yang tinggi. Penelitian dilakukan dengan membuat empat variasi komposisi LDPE:pasir silika:batu split (% berat), yair 70:10:20, 60:20:20, 50:30:20, dan 40:40:20. Sampel berbentuk kubus 15×15×15 cm dibuat dengan metode konvensional, yaitu pelelehan LDPE menggunakan kompor pada temperatur 110-125 °C, lalu pencampuran pasir silika dan batu split, dan dilakukan pengadukan secara manual hingga merata. Tahap pencetakan dan pengeringan dilakukan berdasarkan SNI 03-1974-1990. Pengujian yang dilakukan berupa uji kuat tekan, daya serap air, dan densitas. Hasil dari pengujian menunjukkan keempat sampel roster memenuhi kriteria SNI 03-0349-1989, yang berarti memungkinkan untuk diaplikasikan. Berdasarkan optimasi menggunakan normalisasi data berbasis Microsoft Excel, sampel terbaik yang memenuhi kriteria yang dibutuhkan, seperti kuat tekan tertinggi, daya serap air terendah, dan densitas terendah adalah sampel 1 dengan kuat tekan 139.86 kg/cm², daya serap air 0,716%, dan densitas 1150 kg/m³
