Abstract

Population migration is an integral part of the overall development process, however if the number of immigrants is high it adds to the problem of population density. This condition can give rise to various social and economic problems which ultimately have an impact on community welfare. Population migration will not be a problem if the government of the destination area is able to create jobs and adequate public facilities. The movement of population from one province to another reflects differences in unequal growth and development. As long as these differences remain, population in-migration will continue. This research aims to determine the influence of employment opportunities, average labor wages, poverty levels, infrastructure, foreign Direct investment (FDI) and Domestic Direct investment variable (DDI) on population in-migration. This research covers 34 provinces in Indonesia using the Generalized Method of Moments (GMM). The results obtained are that the lag of incoming migration, employment opportunities, average labor wages, poverty levels, infrastructure, and foreign Direct investment (FDI) have a significant positive effect. Domestic Direct investment variable (DDI) has no effect and is not significant on population in-migration in Indonesia in 20152022.
