Abstract

Technological developments that cannot be separated from materials science are needed to create equipment and materials that suit the needs of all aspects of life. One of these developments is composite materials. Composites are made to improve the needs of certain materials, one of which is conventional plastic which is not environmentally friendly. This research was carried out to analyze the effect of variations in the composition of chicken egg shell powder and sulfur filler, as well as to obtain optimum values based on the variations and determine which variations have a high influence on density and percentage of water content, absorption capacity and porosity. Composite samples were made by mixing several matrix materials such as natural rubber, sulfur, ZnO, and stearic acid with variations in eggshell powder filler of 55%, 60%, 65%. This research was carried out by weighing the mass, measuring the volume, drying process and soaking process to determine the physical properties of the composite samples. The test results prove that variations in filler and sulfur composition have an effect on density, porosity, water content and absorption capacity. And there is an optimum value for filler of 55%, hot press pressure of 50 MPa, hot press temperature of 150°C, hot press time of 70 minutes.

Additional Information: Perkembangan teknologi yang tidak terlepas dari ilmu material diperlukan guna tercipta sebuah peralatan dan bahan yang sesuai dengan kebutuhan pada semua aspek kehidupan. Salah satu perkembangan tersebut adalah material komposit. Komposit dibuat untuk meyempurnakan kebutuhan material tertentu, salah satunya yaitu plastik konvensional yang bersifat tidak ramah lingkungan. Pada penelitian ini dilakukan untuk menganalisis pengaruh variasi komposisi filler serbuk cangkang telur ayam dan sulfur, serta mendapatkan nilai optimum berdasarakan variasi dan mengetahui variasi yang memiliki pengaruh tinggi terhadap densitas serta persetanse kadar air, daya serap, dan porositas. Sampel komposit dibuat dengan metode pencampuran dari beberapa bahan matriks nya seperti karet alam, sulfur, ZnO, dan asam stearat dengan variasi filler serbuk cangkang telur sebesar 55%, 60%, 65%. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan melakukan menimbangan massa, pengukuran volume, proses pengeringan, dan proses perendaman untuk mengetahui sifat fisik pada sampel komposit. Hasil pengujian membuktikan bahwa variasi komposisi filler dan sulfur berpengaruh pada densitas, porositas, kadar air, dan daya serap. Serta terdapat nilai optimum untuk filler sebesar 55%, tekanan hot press sebesar 50 MPa, temperatur hot press 150°C, waktu hot press 70 menit.
