Abstract

Expansive clay has a special characteristic, namely the change in the volume of the soil which gets bigger when it is affected by water and shrinks when the soil experiences drought which causes the soil surface to crack. This soil shrinkage condition will cause serious problems for the construction built on it if it is not handled as early as possible and soil stabilization is needed in this condition. Red brick powder is a building material that contains chemical compounds that can increase the compressive strength of a building. The waste of red brick powder which is rarely used is then reused as a mixture of cement mortar. This study aims to determine the type and classification of soil in Cibingbin Village, a village located in the Cibaliung sub-district, Pandeglang-Banten Regency, based on the USCS soil classification system, and the effect of adding 0%,5%,10%,15% to the length of treatment. 0.7,14,28 days to the value of Free Compressive Strength. From the results of the study, the soil classification in Cibingbin Village was classified as high plasticity organic clay (OH) according to the USCS classification system. The lowest qu value was obtained at 0 days of curing with the percentage of added ingredients 0%, 5%, 10%, 15% the value of qu increased, namely 1,316 kg/cm21,655 kg/cm2, 2,242 kg/cm2, 2,607kg/cm2and obtained the largest qu value at 14 days ripening with percentages of 0%, 5%, 10%, 15% was obtained 1,639 kg/cm2, 3,189 kg/cm2, 3,440 kg/cm2, and 3,603 kg/cm2. The addition of 15% red brick powder can increase the qu value of the soil but experience adecrease in the qu value after passing the 14th day, but the qu value on the 28th day is still higher than day 0 of the UCT test, it is possible that the process of hardening of the red brick powder mixture against Expansive clay is still not perfect.
