Abstract

Soil serves as a support for the foundation of the building on it in various kinds of civil engineering work. The case study in this research is Cibingbin Village, Cibaliung District, Pandeglang Regency, because visually the road is damaged and bumpy, based on the DCP test the soil has a field CBR value of 2.667%. According to the Directorate General of Highways−Kemen PUPR in 2017, the CBR value for subgrade below 6% needs to be stabilized. In this study, soil stabilization was carried out using portland cement with laboratory tests, namely soil physical tests and free compressive strength tests. The variations of portland cement used were 0%, 3%, 5%, and 7% with curing times of 0 days, 7 days and 28 days. The original soil qu value at 0 days of curing was 2,007 kg/cm2, 3%, 5% and 7% the Qu value increased to 3,348 kg/cm2, 4,635 kg/cm2, 5,377 kg/cm2, and the Qu value for curing 7 day is 2,119 kg/cm2, 4,718 kg/cm2. 5,764 kg/cm2, 6,276 kg/cm2. The maximum Qu value was obtained at 7% Portland cement variation with a curing time of 7 days. The original soil plasticity index value was 42.86% and the variation of 7% portland cement with a curing time of 7 days decreased by 24.62% in the high plasticity category, so further research is needed to obtain a plasticity index value that matches the criteria for road subgrade. Keywords: unconfined compression strength, portland, cement, stabilization, soil
