Abstract

The use of stainless steel has good performance as an alloy steel which has corrosion resistant properties. The existence of a mechanical process can corrode stainless steel found in the welding industry. This corrosion phenomenon can be anticipated by using annealing method which can improve corrosion resistance. The purpose of this research is to study the effect of welding on the formation of chromium carbide which causes sensitization phenomena and to analyze the effect of heat treatment and holding time using the annealing method which have an impact on the formation of carbide precipitation. The basic material used is stainless steel 304 after which it is continued by welding GTAW in accordance with WPS, heat treatment with temperature variations (800, 900 and 1000 ℃) as well as variations in holding time (20, 40 and 60 minutes), non destructive testing. test with the ultrasonic test method for the selection of test samples. Then analyzed the data using microphotographs with 500× magnification, impact testing according to ASTM E23, corrosion testing using the weight loss method according to ASTM A262, and SEM-EDX characterization. The results of the lowest corrosion rate were obtained at heat treatment with a temperature of 800 ℃ and a holding time of 20 minutes with a corrosion rate of 175.23 mm/y where at that temperature the corrosion rate decreased compared to without PWHT. The toughest sample toughness in the impact test was obtained at a temperature of 1000℃ and a holding time of 60 minutes with an impact value of 0.2349 J/mm2. The occurrence of intergranular corrosion was proven in SEM-EDX in one of the worst samples. It was stated that a high corrosion rate indicated a decrease in chromium content in the area near the grain boundaries, namely 17.73% compared to chromium levels at grain boundaries, namely 22.34%.

Additional Information: Penggunaan bahan stainless steel memiliki performa yang baik sebagai baja paduan yang memiliki sifat tahan korosi. Adanya proses mekanik dapat menimbulkan korosi pada stainless steel yang ditemukan pada industri pengelasan. Fenomena korosi tersebut dapat diantisipasi dengan menggunakan metode annealing yang dapat memperbaiki ketahanan korosi. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah mempelajari pengaruh pengelasan terhadap terbentuknya karbida krom yang menimbulkan fenomena sensitisasi serta menganalisis pengaruh perlakuan panas dan waktu penahanan menggunakan metode annealing yang berdampak pada terbentuknya presipitasi karbida. Bahan dasar yang digunakan yaitu stainless steel 304 setelah itu dilanjutkan dengan melakukan pengelasan GTAW sesuai dengan WPS, perlakuan panas dengan variasi temperatur (800, 900, dan 1000℃) serta variasi waktu penahanan (20, 40, dan 60 menit), pengujian non destructive test dengan metode ultrasonic test untuk pemilihan sampel pengujian. Kemudian dilakukan analisa data menggunakan foto mikro dengan perbesaran 500×, pengujian impak sesuai dengan ASTM E23, pengujian korosi dengan metode weight loss sesuai dengan ASTM A262, dan karakterisasi SEM-EDX. Hasil laju korosi terendah didapatkan pada perlakuan panas dengan temperatur 800℃ dan waktu penahanan 20 menit dengan laju korosi sebesar 175,23 mm/y dimana pada temperatur tersebut mengalami penurunan laju korosi dibandingkan dengan tanpa PWHT. Ketangguhan sampel terbesar pada pengujian impak diperoleh pada temperatur 1000℃ dan waktu penahanan 60 menit dengan harga impak yang didapatkan sebesar 0,2349 J/mm2. Terjadinya korosi intergranular dibuktikan pada SEM-EDX pada salah satu sampel terburuk dinyatakan bahwa laju korosi yang tinggi menunjukan penurunan kadar krom didaerah dekat batas butir yaitu 17,73% dibandingkan kadar krom pada batas butir yaitu 22,34%.
