EPrints Repository UNTIRTAPARADOKS MODAL SOSIAL DALAM ELEKTABILITAS PETAHANA LEGISLATIF AAM AMARULLAH PADA PEMILU TAHUN 2024SINISA SAFASALSABILLAauthorThis study aims to analyze the paradox of social capital in the electoral viability of Aam Amarullah as a legislative incumbent who failed to retain his seat in the 2024 General Election, despite possessing strong social networks and serving two consecutive terms. This research employs a qualitative approach using a case study method and is analyzed through Pierre Bourdieu’s theory, which conceptualizes politics as an arena (field) of struggle among various forms of capital. The social capital owned by Aam Amarullah, in the form of relational networks with the community and local actors, was unable to be effectively converted into political capital due to an imbalance with the more dominant economic capital of competing candidates within the electoral arena. Furthermore, the symbolic capital derived from his image as a figure close to the community was insufficient to maintain a dominant position when the structure of the local political arena shifted toward more pragmatic and transactional competition. The findings indicate that social capital cannot function independently as a determinant of electoral success but is highly dependent on the relationships and conversion capacity among different forms of capital.
