"Adhesively bonded joints can serve as a temporary alternative to welding in emergency situations for aluminum structures, as they are able to distribute stress more uniformly without causing thermal damage. This study aims to analyze the effect of silica powder addition at 0%, 5%, 10%, and 15% by weight on the shear strength of single lap joints made of aluminum 6061 bonded using commercial epoxy adhesive Dextone. Specimens were prepared in accordance with ASTM D1002 and tested using a Universal Testing Machine (UTM) to determine shear strength, while Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) was employed to identify the chemical characteristics of the adhesive layer. The test results show that the addition of 5% silica produces the highest shear stress value of 3.303 MPa, representing an increase of 68.87% compared to epoxy without silica. Silica contents above 5% lead to a reduction in shear strength due to particle agglomeration and non-uniformity within the adhesive layer. FTIR spectra indicate the presence of typical epoxy functional groups and an increased Si–O–Si absorption band without altering the main chemical structure of the resin. Based on these results, the addition of 5% silica is identified as the precise composition for improving the shear strength of aluminum 6061 joints bonded with Dextone epoxy."^^ .
