description: One of the things that supports farmers’ needs is cooperatives. In 2023, there were 28 cooperatives in Walantaka Subdistrict. But only three of them were active saving and loan cooperatives. This show that there’s been a loss of institutional support for agriculture in the form of cooperatives in the area. This situation provides an opportunity to conduct research aimed at determining (1) rice farmers’ perceptions of cooperatives as agricultural institutions and (2) differences in farmers’ perceptions of cooperatives based on their selected characteristics (Case Study of Walantaka Subdistrict, Serang City – Banten). The research method used quantitative descriptive analysis using the chi-square test. Primary data were collected using questionnaires with a sample size of 295 respondents selected using simple random sampling. The results showed that cooperatives were perceived as good agricultural institutions by more respondents, although there were still quite a number of respondents with less favorable perceptions. The slight difference show that the research results are dominated by positive perceptions, althought they are not strong enough to guarantee the success of cooperatives without socialization and assistance interventions. Meanwhile, the result of the chi-square test analysis show that rice farmers’ perceptions of cooperatives based on three selected characteristics, namely education level, land area, and length of time in farming are not statistically independent.
