The objectives of this study are threefold: (1) to describe the form and function of euphemism use in the writing of headlines for sexual abuse cases in Kompas.com from January 2024 to January 2025; (2) to describe the forms and functions of dysphemism in the writing of headlines for sexual harassment cases in Kompas.com from January 2024 to January 2025; and (3) to describe the implications of the use of euphemism and dysphemism for the teaching of Indonesian language in junior high school seventh grade news text material. This study used a qualitative descriptive method. The data collection techniques used were documentation, observation, note-taking, and literature study. The data in this study consisted of words, phrases, and sentences that were classified as euphemisms and dysphemisms found in the headlines of sexual abuse cases on Kompas.com from January 2024 to January 2025. Based on the analysis results, 26 data were found, consisting of 19 euphemisms and 7 dysphemisms. The forms of euphemisms found include eight forms: (1) metaphors, 1 data; (2) rephrasing, 3 data; (3) circumlocution, 1 data; (4) abbreviations, 1 data; (5) one word to replace another word, amounting to 5 data points; (6) meaning beyond the statement, amounting to 2 data points; (7) jargon, amounting to 5 data points; and (8) colloquialisms, amounting to 1 data point. The functions of euphemisms found include two functions: (1) to soften speech, 11 data; and (2) to disguise or obscure meaning, 8 data. Meanwhile, the forms of dysphemism include three forms: (1) metaphors in 1 data; (2) one word to replace another in 3 data; and (3) colloquialisms in 3 data. The functions of dysphemism found include two functions: (1) to give a frightening impression in 4 data; and (2) to give a sense of psychological discomfort in 3 data. Furthermore, the implications of this study's results can be utilized in teaching Indonesian language to seventh-grade junior high school students in news text material in accordance with the Merdeka Curriculum.
