"This study is grounded in the urgency of examining the representation of inner conflict experienced by war victim characters in literary works, particularly those related to historical experience and the devastation of human life caused by war. The novel Keluarga Gerilya by Pramoedya Ananta Toer and the short story Grave of the Fireflies by Akiyuki Nosaka were selected as research objects because both portray the psychological suffering of civilian characters in wartime situations, despite originating from different cultural, historical, and literary forms. This thematic similarity opens a space for comparative literary study to identify the similarities and differences in personality structures and psychological factors shaping the characters’ inner conflicts. The objectives of this study are to describe the personality structures underlying the inner conflicts of war victim characters in both works, to identify the psychological factors influencing the human psyche behind these conflicts, and to reveal their similarities and differences through a comparative literary approach. This research employs a descriptive qualitative method with a library research design. The approach used is literary psychology based on Freud’s psychoanalytic theory encompassing the id, ego, and superego, as well as theories concerning factors influencing the human psyche. Data were collected through observing, reading, and note-taking techniques, then analyzed through stages of classification, identification, and description before being compared to identify patterns of similarity and difference. The findings indicate that inner conflict in Keluarga Gerilya develops through tension between personal impulses and the ideological demands of revolution that shape the moral consciousness of its characters. Personality structures operate in complex relations influenced by ideological situational and socio-psychological factors. Meanwhile, inner conflict in Grave of the Fireflies is rooted in experiences of loss, starvation, and familial destruction suffered by civilian children, resulting in personality structures more dominantly shaped by affective responses to existential suffering without mediation by ideological consciousness. The study concludes that the inner conflicts of war victim characters are not universal but are shaped by historical context, the subject’s position within war, and the surrounding social structure. The comparison of the two works affirms that war literature not only records violent events but also represents the vulnerability of the human psyche in confronting historical forces that transcend individual existence."^^ .
