Fisheries. Angling description: Water quality fluctuations, particularly rising toxic ammonia/nitrite and declining dissolved oxygen (DO), challenge aquarium fish culture. Conventional filters, while effective, incur significant operational costs and energy use. This study evaluated the aquatic plant Elodea (Egeria densa) as a natural, dual-purpose alternative for oxygenation and phytoremediation in maintaining Platy fish (Xiphophorus maculatus). A quantitative study employed a Completely Randomized Design with four treatments (0g, 125g, 250g, 375g fresh-weight Elodea) in triplicate 30L tanks stocked with 15 fish each. Water parameters (temperature, pH, DO, ammonia, nitrite) and Survival Rate (SR) were monitored for 30 days. Results indicated Elodea significantly improved key water parameters. Treatments with 250g and 375g significantly lowered temperature and increased pH and DO. However, reductions in ammonia and nitrite were not statistically significant. For fish survival, the 250g treatment yielded the highest SR (93.3%), followed by 125g (86.7%), control (51.1%), and 375g (42.2%). A Duncan test confirmed 250g as the optimal treatment. Egeria densa effectively enhances water quality and Platy fish survival in controlled systems. An optimal weight of 250g per 30L is recommended.
