"The beauty industry in Indonesia faces serious challenges from the circulation of\r\nillegal cosmetics that endanger consumers. These products often contain\r\nprohibited substances such as mercury and hydroquinone, which have been\r\nproven to cause severe physical and health damage to consumers. Therefore, the\r\nresearcher identifies two main problems, first, how criminal law enforcement is\r\ncarried out against the trade of illegal cosmetics in Indonesia, second, what\r\nprotection efforts can be applied for victims of illegal cosmetic trade crimes based\r\non Law Number 8 of 1999 concerning Consumer Protection. The theories used in\r\nthis study are the theory of law enforcement and the theory of legal protection,\r\nemploying a normative juridical research method and a statutory approach. The\r\nresults of the study indicate that legal protection for victims of illegal cosmetic\r\ntrade crimes has not been optimally fulfilled. Although Law Number 8 of 1999\r\nconcerning Consumer Protection clearly regulates legal remedies available to\r\nvictims, the implementation of these regulations remains weak. This is due to\r\nseveral factors, such as limited law enforcement resources and the lack of public\r\nawareness regarding their rights as consumers. Therefore, measures such as\r\nstrengthening the capacity of law enforcement officers, expanding public\r\neducation, and imposing stricter sanctions are necessary to ensure more effective\r\nconsumer protection and to suppress the circulation of illegal cosmetics in\r\nIndonesia"^^ .
