The crime of counterfeiting currency is a crime of imitating or falsifying currency, state banknotes, or banks with the intention of circulating or ordering it to be circulated as if the currency, state banknotes, or banknotes were genuine and not counterfeited. This research has problem identification First, how is the criminal responsibility for the crime of counterfeiting money based on Law Number 7 of 2011, Second, how is the role of criminal law in preventing the crime of counterfeiting money. The method used by the researcher is normative juridical with an approach to legal norms that are still in force, whether written or unwritten. The responsibility of the law that regulates counterfeiting currency in Indonesia is very clear and firm. This is mainly regulated in Law No. 7 of 2011 concerning Currency and several articles in the Criminal Code (KUHP), such as Article 244, Article 245, and Article 374 and Article 375 of the new KUHP, The enactment of Law No. 7 of 2011 concerning Currency, is a legal effort to complement the limitations in the KUHP that regulate and threaten perpetrators of counterfeiting money so that the substance of Law No. 7 of 2011 contains legal efforts to anticipate the emergence of various types of crimes related to counterfeiting such as terrorism and money laundering. And also one of the efforts is to emphasize that the rupiah is the only legal tender for the entire territory of the Republic of Indonesia, which means its use is mandatory in any transaction and anyone within the territory of Indonesia with criminal consequences for those who violate it. This crime has far-reaching consequences, not only for individuals who receive counterfeit money in transactions, but also for economic stability and public confidence in the country's financial system. The presence of counterfeit money in society has the potential to jeopardize the monetary system, cause inflation, and hinder economic growth.
