Biodiesel can be used as a substitute for diesel as engine fuel or as an alternative energy substitute for diesel fuel. This study was conducted with the aim of determining the effect of adding catalysts from chicken eggshells and ZnO/TiO2 on the yield, density, and viscosity of biodiesel products from used cooking oil. The experimental stage began with catalyst preparation and then synthesized the catalyst using the impregnation method. Calcium Oxide (CaO) obtained from the calcination of eggshells (CaCO3) acts as a heterogeneous catalyst in the transesterification process. Then, the used cooking oil is pretreated with an esterification process and FFA levels are tested. After that, biodiesel is synthesized by heating and stirring the used cooking oil, methanol, and catalyst. Then the biodiesel is purified by separating it from the catalyst and washing it. The resulting product was then heated and characterized by testing the density and viscosity of the biodiesel product, determining the yield, and conducting GC-MS tests. The chicken eggshell and ZnO/TiO2 photocatalysts were also tested using XRD and SEM-EDX.
