The findings show how the violation of peasant “eligibility limits” and colonial policies created structural inequality. Local elites systematically sacrificed peasant interests to meet Dutch demands. The 1849 famine was not just a natural disaster, but a direct result of the structural greed of the colonial system. The injustice of this policy victimized the small people, especially farmers, on a massive scale. This research reconstructs exploitative power relations and reveals their relevance to contemporary agrarian injustice.
