description: The formation of self-concept in inmates within detention facilities is a crucial aspect of the social reintegration process. Self-concept in inmates is a complex process shaped by personal experiences, social interactions, and rehabilitation programs within the detention center. This study aims to explain the formation of self-concept in inmates at Class IIB Detention Center in Pandeglang Regency. The symbolic interactionism theory by George Herbert Mead, with its three key concepts “mind, self, and society” serves as the analytical foundation for this research. This study employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive research technique. Data collection was carried out through interviews, observations, and documentation. The data analysis technique consists of four stages: data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing.   The findings of this study indicate that inmates’ self-concept develops through reflection on past experiences, social pressure, and continuous social interaction within the prison environment. Inmates at Class IIB Detention Center in Pandeglang Regency engage in self-reflection and internalize new values and norms as part of their self-concept formation process. Social interactions within the detention center, along with the personal interpretation of their incarceration experiences, serve as key elements in this process. These findings affirm that inmates’ self-concept is not static but dynamic, continuously evolving through social interactions and the internalization of new values.
