Weld defects can occur during the welding process and can be fatal if not detected and rectified. Therefore, inspection of weld results is essential to ensure there are no defects in the weld joints that could cause material damage. One method to identify the presence of defects is through non-destructive testing. A commonly used non-destructive testing method for inspecting weld results is radiography. Currently, Magnetic Induction Tomography (MIT) is one of the methods being developed for non-destructive testing. This study aims to design and simulate an MIT sensor using Multiphysics software to detect weld defects in SS400 steel pipe joints. Simulations were conducted by modeling defects with diameters ranging from 0.5 – 2 mm. Simulation results indicate that a frequency range of 20,000 – 32,000 Hz is optimal for defect detection. With a 50 Ohm resistor and a 50 Volt input, the highest receiver voltage (VRx) of 977.51 mV was achieved at 32,000 Hz. Significantly larger defects, specifically D 1 and H 2.5, consistently produced higher VRx values compared to normal conditions at high frequencies.
