The study employed a qualitative descriptive method using content analysis, with data collected through semi-structured interviews and classroom observations involving 20 eighth-grade students and an English teacher at SMPN 3 Bantarujeg. The findings revealed that students encounter several major difficulties in reading English texts, including limited vocabulary mastery, poor understanding of sentence structure, inability to identify main ideas, low inferential skills, and lack of awareness and use of reading strategies. External factors such as teacher-centered learning methods and limited support from the learning environment also contribute to these difficulties. The study also found that students rarely employ metacognitive strategies such as planning, monitoring, and evaluating their reading comprehension. These findings are consistent with, yet extend beyond, previous studies by providing deeper insights into the classroom realities. It is concluded that both cognitive and environmental factors significantly affect students’ reading comprehension, and that explicit instruction in reading strategies, combined with engaging materials and supportive teaching practices, are necessary to overcome these challenges and improve students' reading skills. date: 2025-07-21 type: Thesis type: NonPeerReviewed format: text language: id identifier: https://eprints.untirta.ac.id/52241/26/Widy%20Silva%20Julianti_2223210051_Fulltext.pdf format: text language: id identifier: https://eprints.untirta.ac.id/52241/25/Widy%20Silva%20Julianti_2223210051_01.pdf format: text language: id identifier: https://eprints.untirta.ac.id/52241/3/Widy%20Silva%20Julianti_2223210051_02%20.pdf format: text language: id identifier: https://eprints.untirta.ac.id/52241/4/Widy%20Silva%20Julianti_2223210051_03.pdf format: text language: id identifier: https://eprints.untirta.ac.id/52241/5/Widy%20Silva%20Julianti_2223210051_04.pdf format: text language: id identifier: https://eprints.untirta.ac.id/52241/6/Widy%20Silva%20Julianti_2223210051_05.pdf format: text language: id identifier: https://eprints.untirta.ac.id/52241/7/Widy%20Silva%20Julianti_2223210051_Reff.pdf format: text language: id identifier: https://eprints.untirta.ac.id/52241/8/Widy%20Silva%20Julianti_2223210051_Lamp.pdf format: text language: id identifier: https://eprints.untirta.ac.id/52241/21/Widy%20Silva%20Julianti_2223210051_CP.pdf identifier: JULIANTI, WIDY SILVA (2025) Analysis of Students’ Difficulties in Reading English Text for EFL Learners in Junior High School.
