description: Traditional markets are an important element in the economic system of society,  especially for the lower middle class. However, the existence of traditional markets  in Serang City faces various problems, such as low environmental order, poor  sanitation, disorder among traders, and a lack of effective market management.  From the existing issues, there is a need for a process of guidance and supervision.  This plays a very important role in providing development and changes to  traditional markets, especially those in the city of Serang. The research method used  is field research with a qualitative research type and a normative-empirical legal  approach. The data and sources of data used in this research are primary data  sources as well as secondary data sources. Data collection techniques involved  observation, interviews, and documentation to gather information regarding the  development and supervision of traditional markets from the Trade Office, UPTD  Market Management, and traditional market traders in Serang City. Subsequently,  data analysis techniques were carried out through data reduction and abstraction.  The conclusion of this research is that guidance and supervision are very important  to realize a better traditional market, which is not only economically competitive  but also contributes to environmental preservation. Guidance and supervision are  carried out by the Trade Office along with the Market Management UPTD in  accordance with the main duties and functions outlined in the Serang Mayor  Regulation Number 126 of 2021 and the Serang Mayor Regulation Number 48 of  2021 in the field of trade. Then, there is a need for specific operational strategies to  improve traditional markets, such as strategies for market infrastructure  improvement, guidance on vendor organization, environmental education, and  providing legal guarantees for vendors in conducting buying and selling  interactions. Guidance, supervision, and operational strategies require stronger  collaboration between the government, traders, and the community to create a  healthier, orderly, and environmentally friendly market in the City of Serang.
