One of the technological breakthroughs born is the use of road construction cover layers that have structural value such as Stone Mastic Asphalt (SMA), a hot mix asphalt that used as a surface coating. The plus side of this SMA mixture is that it is more resistant to ultraviolet light andoxidation, also increases the durability of the pavement. However, the disadvantage of this mixture is that this asphalt layer is less resistant to high temperatures because it can causes bleeding on the mixture. Bleeding can be overcome by adding cellulose fibers that can increase the viscosity of asphalt. This research aims to determine the characteristics of materials with cellulose fiber additives in SMA mixtures and determine the effect of variations in cellulose fiber content of 0,2%, 0,3%, and 0,5% on the caracteristics of resilient modulus in SMA mixtures. The method used in this research is indirect tensile testing method with Universal Testing Apparatus (UMATTA). The results of this research show that the optimum cellulose fiber content based on the resilient modulus value is at 0,5% fiber content with an optimum asphalt content of 6,5% giving a resilient modulus value of 1241,33 MPa. The use of water hyacinth cellulose fiber as an additive can be suggested, as it can increase the resilient modulus value. This happens because the viscosity of asphalt can be increased by cellulose fiber and the addition of voids in the mixtures which makes asphalt more effective in filling the voids.
