This study aims to remove ammonium from domestic wastewater using synthetic zeolite 13X as an adsorbent. The zeolite was characterized using SEM and XRD tests to identify its morphological structure and phase composition. Adsorption kinetics were studied using the Lagergren’s First Order, Pseudo Second Order, Elovich, and Intraparticle models, with the Elovich model showing the best fit (SSE = 0.08693). Meanwhile, the adsorption isotherm study indicated that the Langmuir-Vageler model was the most appropriate (SSE = 0.0006), indicating significant interaction between ammonium and the zeolite surface. Increasing the mass of zeolite improved ammonium removal efficiency, although efficiency tended to plateau once the system reached saturation. The effect of initial solution concentration on removal efficiency showed that the highest efficiency was achieved at an initial concentration of 20 ppm. On the other hand, pH variation had no significant effect on adsorption performance. These findings suggest that synthetic zeolite 13X has effective adsorption capabilities under certain conditions.
