The research employed a qualitative approach with a case study design. The subjects were eight eighth-grade students from SMP Pramita, selected based on specific criteria, with two students representing each type of Newman’s error: reading, comprehension, transformation, process skills, and encoding. The research instruments consisted of a set theory problem-solving test and semi-structured interviews. The findings revealed that the most common error made by students was in writing the final answer, followed by errors in the problem-solving process, transformation, and comprehension. To address these errors, scaffolding strategies were provided in the forms of reviewing, restructuring, explaining, and developing conceptual thinking. After receiving scaffolding, the students were able to solve the problems correctly.
