description: Generation gaps in families cause differences in perspective, values, and ideas between parents and children. The relationship between parents and children can be studied through communication patterns formed in families with generation gaps. The purpose of this study is to see how family communication patterns are formed through communication styles and needs, power, and conflict. This study uses the Family Communication Pattern Theory from Joseph DeVito. This study uses a qualitative interpretive approach with a phenomenological method and data collection techniques carried out through interviews. The results of the study show that there are open communication styles and closed communication styles. The need for affection is met and some are not met. There are individuals who dominate decisions and conflict resolution at home in some families and there are also families who discuss decision making and conflict resolution. Family communication patterns formed in families with generation gaps are equal communication patterns and separate unbalanced communication patterns.
