Child health services description: Background: Diarrhea is still the disease with the highest morbidity and mortality rates in children under five, with a prevalence of 8.2% in Banten Province. Diarrhea can cause dehydration, malnutrition, disruption of cognitive development, and stunting in toddlers. One of the factors that cause diarrhea is environmental factors, such as clean water facilities, availability of latrines, wastewater disposal systems, and waste management. This study aims to determine the relationship between environmental sanitation and incidence of diarrhea in children under five in Banten Subdistrict, Kasemen Subdistrict, Serang City. Methods: This study used an observational analytic design with a cross-sectional study. The convenience sampling sampling technique was chosen to examine children under five who live in Banten Subdistrict, Kasemen District, Serang City. The sample was 57 respondents with data collection using a questionnaire and analyzed using the chi-square test. Result: The proportion of diarrhea incidence in children under five in Banten Subdistrict, Kasemen District, Serang City was 42.1%. The proportion of good environmental sanitation in the community in the form of clean water facilities (70.2%), toilet availability facilities (66.7%), garbage disposal facilities (40.4%), and wastewater disposal facilities (38.6%). There was an association between clean water facilities and waste water disposal facilities with the incidence of diarrhea in toddlers. Meanwhile, the availability of latrines and waste disposal facilities were not found to have a significant relationship with the incidence of diarrhea in children under five. Conclusion: Environmental sanitation, especially clean water facilities and waste water disposal facilities are associated with the incidence of diarrhea in children under five.
