High schools description: This study aims to describe the types of student errors in solving problems related to algebraic material using Newman’s Error Analysis and to identify appropriate scaffolding strategies to support students in addressing these problems. The research design employs a qualitative approach with a case study method. The subjects of the study are eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 19 Kota Tangerang, selected based on the criteria that they have participated in algebra learning, taken a written test on algebra, and exhibited a variety of errors in the test. A constant comparative method was used to explain each type of error based on Newman’s indicators through interviews with two subjects representing each type of error. The instruments used included algebra problem-solving test questions and semi-structured interviews. The results of the study indicate that the most common types of errors made by students are: 1) Process Skills, 2) Transformation, 3) Comprehension, 4) Writing the Final Answer, and 5) Reading.
