description: Public perception often views anime fans as antisocial individuals, which leads many of them to conceal their identities in real-life social settings. However, as inherently social beings, anime fans still have a need to exchange information and form social connections. As a result, they turn to Social Media X as a platform for communication and interaction among fellow fans. This study aims to explore how hyperpersonal relationships are formed among followers of the @JPFBASE account on Social Media X, as well as to identify the patterns of hyperpersonal relationships among these followers. The research employs the Hyperpersonal Communication Model as its theoretical framework, using a qualitative interpretive approach and the netnographic method. The findings reveal that hyperpersonal relationships are formed due to four key stimuli. First, selective message receivers—anime fans as recipients tend to filter the information they want to receive and choose how they engage with others. Second, message senders are able to express themselves—on Social Media X, anime fans can curate the information they post, present themselves differently from their offline personas, and use pseudonyms created specifically for online use. Third, the communication channel enables asynchronous interaction, eliminating the constraints of space and time. Lastly, feedback is present in both positive and negative forms. The relationship patterns that emerge from hyperpersonal communication include a high degree of emotional closeness, intense and open interactions, and two-way communication.
