Metode ini dipilih karena dinilai mampu meningkatkan keterampilan berpikir kritis melalui langkah-langkah sistematis seperti pengamatan, perumusan masalah, hipotesis, eksperimen, dan kesimpulan. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan desain quasi-experimental, melibatkan dua kelompok: eksperimen (menggunakan scientific method) dan kontrol (menggunakan pembelajaran konvensional), yang keduanya diuji menggunakan pretest dan posttest. Penelitian dilaksanakan di SMK Negeri 2 Pandeglang pada siswa kelas XI APL semester genap tahun pelajaran 2024/2025 dengan jumlah sampel 68 siswa yang dipilih melalui purposive sampling. Instrumen yang digunakan adalah tes tertulis untuk mengukur pemahaman konseptual dan angket untuk kemandirian belajar. Analisis data dilakukan menggunakan uji manova. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa penerapan scientific method berpengaruh secara signifikan terhadap (1) peningkatan pemahaman konseptual, (2) peningkatan kemandirian belajar, dan (3) secara umum terhadap kedua aspek tersebut pada materi peluang. Penelitian ini mengindikasikan bahwa pendekatan scientific method efektif diterapkan dalam pembelajaran matematika guna mengembangkan pemahaman dan kemandirian belajar siswa. abstract: This study aims to analyze the effect of scientific method-based learning on students’ conceptual understanding and learning independence. This method was chosen because it is considered capable of enhancing critical thinking skills through systematic steps such as observation, problem formulation, hypothesis, experimentation, and conclusion. The research employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design, involving two groups: the experimental group (using the scientific method) and the control group (using conventional learning), both of which were assessed using pretests and posttests. The study was conducted at SMK Negeri 2 Pandeglang with Class XI APL students during the even semester of the 2024/2025 academic year, involving a sample of 68 students selected through purposive sampling. Instruments used included written tests to measure conceptual understanding and questionnaires to assess learning independence. Data analysis was carried out using MANOVA. The results showed that the application of the scientific method had a significant effect on (1) improving conceptual understanding, (2) enhancing learning independence, and (3) overall improvement in both aspects in the topic of probability.
