description: This study aims to identify the types and causes of students’ errors in solving matrix problems based on Newman's theory at Islamic Centre Senior High School in the 2024/2025 academic year. This research is a qualitative descriptive study. Data were collected through tests and interviews. The subjects of this study were 33 eleventh-grade students of Islamic Centre Senior High School. The results showed the percentage of errors made by students in solving matrix problems based on Newman's theory as follows: (a) reading errors at 7.87%, (b) comprehension errors at 26.06%, (c) transformation errors at 44.84%, (d) process skills errors at 54.54%, and (e) endcoding errors at 23.63%. The causes of these errors include rushing and lack of accuracy in reading the questions, misunderstanding the meaning of the problems, using incorrect formulas, missteps in calculations, and being hasty in completing the tasks.
